The Long Weekend

Well, the long weekend came and went way too fast for me. My Dad is home from Iraq so I got to visit with him. He goes back Sunday though. We are going to have a family dinner Saturday with him and my Mom. In other Iraq news, my brother was in the paper this weekend. Well, he wasn't in the paper but a story about him was. My brother, Bobby Statum, is a specialist in the US Army stationed in Iraq. The journalist that wrote the story about him did an email interview with Bobby. Bobby emailed his answers back to this journalist. Did I mention that my brother's email address has his name as Bobby Digler? lol You guessed it, the entire story called him Bobby Digler instead of Bobby Statum...lol My Mother was livid. I thought it was hilarious though. I wonder what my sister in law thinks about it? lol

Bragging

Ok I have to brag on my nephew Austin. Austin and his sister came to live with me in January. They ha both missed 3 months of school. I got them back into school and Austin worked so hard on his grades. His lowest yearly average was a 79. For a child that missed so much work and had so many 0's, he pulled it off. I am so proud of him. Evidently, I was not the only one proud of him. I got a letter from his Math teacher telling me how much he enjoyed having my nephew in his class this year. He bragged about how hard Austin worked to bring his average up to what it is. In closing he said that he looked forward to watching Austin graduate from high school, with honors, in 4 years time. Made me cry! lol Austin buddy, I am so proud of you! I love you!

American Idol

Ok so the votes were in and the winner was declared! Drum roll please....dadadadadada....TAYLOR HICKS! It wouldn't have mattered to me which one of the two won, they were both very talented. I was a little bit shocked that Kathryn didn't win. Not disappointed. Just shocked. Wow...I was blown away by the guest stars. When Prince came out, I couldn't believe it. But did anyone else notice that he was wearing high heels? LOL My daughter was working tonight during the show and missed it. Of course, her heart throbm Clay Aiken was on tonight too. I sent her a text message telling her about it and how hot he looked...LOL Both of the finalists was given a new convertible Mustang. How cool was that? I suspect both will make a lot of money in the future.

A Big Meanie

Ok, so maybe I am a "Big Meanie", as my friend Paul put it, but I am clever. Last night Raegan, my niece, decided that since her brother was sick was not having to go to school that she would also be sick. She played it up well also. Held her head and squinted her eyes, and cried about how bad her head was feeling. Then she felt her forehead and said, "I am burning up too." Which of course, she had no fever. Not even close to normal. So, being the loving and caring Aunt that I am, I went to Walgreens and bought some children's tylenol, just on the off chance that she may have had somewhat of a headache. I got home and poured the medicine in the medicine cup and took it to her. I told her before she took it, to make sure she was sick because if she wasn't, this liquid would turn her skin blue! She looked at me horrorfied, and informed me that she did not want blue skin. LOL! Don't you just love the innocence of a child?

Mothers

I was sitting here thinking about all the people in the world that had to visit Mother's Day this year, minus their Moms. I, however, am one of the lucky ones who still has her Mom. I talk to her on a daily basis and tell her I love her, lest she forgets. A couple of years back I had someone ask me to write a poem for them to read at their Mom's funeral. This is what I came up with:

Goodbye Mom

I look upon her face and see
The woman who gave life to me.
The one I always could count on.
And now the one that is gone.
A better Mother can't be found
Not here or anywhere around
She gave so much yet received so few
Of the blessings, smiles, and warm hugs too.
She is in a better place I know
No more suffering or feeling low.
Letting go is hard to do
So one more thing I beg of you.
Just one more day with her I ask
Let me complete this one last task.
I must bid my Mother farewell
I'll miss you Mom more than I can tell.
How can I say good-bye
I want to rebel, but then slump and cry.
You mean so much to me Mother dear
So with your strength I will have no fear.
I will be brave and let life go on
And remember your love to lead me strong
And on the days that I feel so low
I'll look to heaven and feel your warm glow.
Thank you Mother for your guiding hand
That made me the woman I am
I will think of you often and it will bring a smile
Then I will sit and think of my Mother a while.

Long Night

I had a really long night last night. My nephew, Austin, had a very high fever, 103.6 to be exact. So, I spent my night at the emergency room with him. By the time we made it to the E.R., about 15 minutes later, his fever had hit 104.1. So, they jabbed, poked, and prodded him with needles until they decided that he had an upper respiratory infection. 7 hours later, we got to go home. Today, he just had to go to school, so out the door he went, after I went to work. Of course, the school nurse called me to pick him up after he started running a high fever again. BUSTED! How strange is it for a kid to like school so much that they sneak out to GO to school? LOL Frankly, I don't think it is the higher learning that he was after, rather than the cute girl he is currently in love with. Anyway, he seems better tonight but no school tomorrow for him. His sister is really jealous about it and has decided that she is indeed sick as well. She is the first child to go down in history as having a high fever of 98.4. Not even normal yet...LOL It's starting to really get to be fun around here!

OVER


It's finally over; all is said and done
The final nail has been driven home
The day is ending and the night begins
Healing starts and the battle ends
No more fights, no drawn out pain
No way that I can explain
How your words no longer cut so deep
How nevermore I will lose sleep
No more tears will I cry
Life goes on and so will I.
In this battle, you were a worthy foe
You cut me more than you will know
You ripped my spirit away from me
Just so that I could never be free.

End of an Era

It is official. An end of an era. We said goodbye to the 70's last night....Again. Everything was put on hold while the hour long special was playing. I cooked supper early so I wouldn't be interrupted. I was happy to see Eric come back in the last 15 minutes. The ending was brilliant. It was New Years Eve, 1979. They ended the show doing the count down to the New Year. It was 10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1 and the show went off the air. Sad, just sad. I will miss the 70's...Again!

It's Confirmed

Yes, it is confirmed, Jim is God. I always suspected as much but today I have proof! We went to the city to buy the permit for our project and was told absolutely no way could we get it before the demo guy buys his permit. We argued it but to no avail. One phone call from Jim and the hold was released. Amazing! He changed the mind of the entire City of Houston. Now, I did learn one other thing today. Obviously, God gets indigestion from time to time! LOL

Funny

Have you ever had a person that just their voice intimidated you? Well that would be Jim Berry for me. Jim is the project manager for the Management company that oversees the school that my company is building. Jim has one of those voices that demand respect. The voice that demands your attention, not just some of it..All of it. You would almost expect him to say "THIS IS GOD" when he calls. Anyway, he called today and I answered the phone. I said, "Good afternoon, Pyramid." He says, "Hello, this is Jim Berry with Gilbane..(BURP) Builders." Long pause of pure silence. I couldn't hold it in anymore. I busted up laughing. To which Jim says, "I am so sorry, it seems my words got away from me." I said, "Well, that isn't all that got away from you!" LOL Needless to say, he won't be intimidating me anymore! Don't you just love when a work day ends like that?

This Moment

Right now I am happy. I can't explain it. There is no apparent reason for it. I just feel happy. Nothing special has happened today to bring on feelings of joy. But I still feel happy right now. I think I will just enjoy it while it lasts.

Mother's Day

Mother's day was pretty good. I spent some time with my wonderful Mom and I got to spend time with my beautiful daughter. As if that were not enough already, I also get the pleasure of having my great niece and nephew with me on such a special day. I know this day was so hard on them, not being with their Mom. I do try really hard to help them with that, I hope I do. I know I can't be their Mom, but, I can be their Nana, and I hope that is just as good to them one of these days.

One More Week

Well, I can find small comfort in the fact that I was wrong, for once in my life, in that fact that That 70's Show has one more week. If there was one more week, why did they call last nights episode the farewell episode? I should complain about that, scaring me and all. However, I am too excited about one more week to complain. It seems like all the good shows go off the air way too soon. If it were up to me, Gilligan would still be on that island, Jeanie would still be working her magic, And Beaver would still be 10 years old. What shows do you miss?

Farewell That 70's Show

Tonight is the final night of That 70's Show. I am so upset. One of the funniest tv shows in a long time. It's almost as upsetting as when Three's Company went off the air. At least with that show they had a sequal, Three's A Crowd. Maybe they will come out with a sequal this time as well. The show only played for 8 years, while we all know that the 70's definitely had 10 years in it. I think we should all boycott!!! They owe us 2 more years! 2 MORE YEARS! 2 MORE YEARS! 2 MORE YEARS!

The Pressure

Jamie added me to his "list" of blogs read so now I am feeling the pressure to actually allow him to read something. lol I heard from CPS last night and it seems that my niece and nephew are going to become a permanent fixture in my home. I guess I can now call them "chattel" lol Seriously, I couldn't be more pleased about that. They take up a lot of my time, but, it's ok. Just need to learn how to spread myself a little bit thinner...And if nothing else, hey, at least I will be thinner! lol

Bid Day

Today was a bid day at work, which means running from 8 AM until about 3 PM straight. Now here is my question. Can I log these as work out hours? Since it was mentioned that all this running is good excersize, I thought surely it must have a positive spin somewhere. What are your thoughts on this?

Could you stop the world and let me off?

Today has been one of those days. You know what I mean, the day that everyone and their brother needed something from you. So, I spent my day running from office to office and made everyone happy except for Houston Independent School District. Oh well, I will get their paper work to them tomorrow. Oh, on a more interesting note, we have two temporary additions to our family. My daughter, being so tenderhearted, brought home two lil pups that she found that were very hungry. Poor things, their ribs were poking out. Today, they were running around the back yard, happy as can be. So, if anyone reading this is interested in adopting a cut lil pup or two..just say the word...any word in fact...lol
