Mothers

I was sitting here thinking about all the people in the world that had to visit Mother's Day this year, minus their Moms. I, however, am one of the lucky ones who still has her Mom. I talk to her on a daily basis and tell her I love her, lest she forgets. A couple of years back I had someone ask me to write a poem for them to read at their Mom's funeral. This is what I came up with:

Goodbye Mom

I look upon her face and see
The woman who gave life to me.
The one I always could count on.
And now the one that is gone.
A better Mother can't be found
Not here or anywhere around
She gave so much yet received so few
Of the blessings, smiles, and warm hugs too.
She is in a better place I know
No more suffering or feeling low.
Letting go is hard to do
So one more thing I beg of you.
Just one more day with her I ask
Let me complete this one last task.
I must bid my Mother farewell
I'll miss you Mom more than I can tell.
How can I say good-bye
I want to rebel, but then slump and cry.
You mean so much to me Mother dear
So with your strength I will have no fear.
I will be brave and let life go on
And remember your love to lead me strong
And on the days that I feel so low
I'll look to heaven and feel your warm glow.
Thank you Mother for your guiding hand
That made me the woman I am
I will think of you often and it will bring a smile
Then I will sit and think of my Mother a while.

That is beautiful. Speaking as someone who lost their Mom very suddenly last January, your poem really tugged at my heart strings. It rang so true...it was almost as if you knew my Mom!

Thank you for sharing.
